Our DIY American Girl Wardrobe

I've been looking in stores and on Pinterest for a simple wardrobe solution to my daughter's growing American Girl doll collection for a while now without much luck. So last night my husband helped me transform a 13" 2-cube shelf from Target and the result is PERFECT! Sharing in case anyone else is needing an idea....

What you need: 2-cube 13" organizer shelf (we used one from Target), a 1/2" oak dowel rod, a drill, and a hand saw.

Before beginning any assembly, measure about 2.5" below the top of the shelf and mark the center where the dowel rod will insert. Drill a 1/2" diameter hole about halfway through the depth of the shelf's side piece, the repeat on the other side piece. Cut the dowel rod to a length of about 15.5" (you can trim more off if that is too long depending on the exact depth of your holes). The shelf from Target comes with pre-drilled holes at 1/4 and 3/4 of the way down so you can purchase additional shelves if desired, but we decided to just use what would have been the middle shelf and widen the preexisting holes to put the middle shelf lower at the 3/4 spot so it was more stable. If you don't want to do this, you could just buy the add on shelf and put it in at the end. Lie on piece on its side and put all the pieces together and finish assembly as directed.
